How to Measure for Your New Handmade Leather Belt

To Ensure a Correct Fit

Using a belt you already wear, measure the distance from where the leather wraps around the buckle to the hole you are currently using. Round up to the next even number (for example, 35½", order size 36). Select this size when you order.  See the picture below.

In addition, check the width of your belt loops to ensure that the width of your new belt will fit through the loops. See the section below, "About buckles," for more information.

No tape measure handy?

Select a belt size that's one size up from your pants (waist) size, to the nearest even number.  For example, if you wear size 34 pants, then order a size 36 belt.

About buckles

If you are ordering a belt on which you intend to snap on your own buckle, follow these steps:

  1. Turn the buckle over and measure the inside width of the bale, which is the part of the buckle that the leather wraps around.  Most buckles, even large ones, have bales that are 1½ inches or 1¾ inches wide.

  2. Order one of our fine leather belts that is the same width as the bale on your buckle.
